Cleaning Rice Properly

I've seen a bunch of ways that rice can be cleaned from having running water over it, to rinsing it using a strainer. I've tried both but this is the way that just works best for me.

  • I was told to just rinse the rice until the water runs pretty close to clear with no specific instructions from my family members. It wasn't until recently that I actually learned how to do it "correctly".
  • I fill the pot with water and I just grab the rice with one hand and have the grains gently grind against each other in the water.
  • I then drain the pot trying not to spill any of the rice as the milky water gets poured down the drain.
  • I normally do this process about three times. I've been told to leave the water running over the rice during this process but I just feel like it wastes too much water.
  • After the rice has been cleaned, just follow the directions in the bag on how much water you need and throw it in the rice cooker. I like to use filtered water when I cook the rice since that's whats getting absorbed.

Clean Happy Rice :)

    1. Haha it's ok, a lot of people don't. When I had Will make rice he just added water and threw it in the rice cooker. You just get softer fluffier rice when you clean it.

  2. I don't rinse my rice because it loses some of its nutritional value that way. Most people don't care about that as much as I do. :P I also am lazy. I don't want to put together that little extra effort. XD

    1. Yea rinsing rice can take out the fortified vitamins off it, but my asianess prevents me from caring about the vitamins when i can just have softer rice. :p And we buy 20 pounds at a time and it can collect dust after a while.
